Publication & Editorial Policy

The Health Science & Innovation Lab (HSIL) maintains a rigorous editorial framework designed to uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity, clinical accuracy, and research ethics. Our mission is to provide a platform for high-impact health science research that is free from commercial bias and accessible to the global scientific community.

I. Double-Blind Peer Review Excellence

To guarantee an impartial and objective evaluation of all submissions, HSIL operates under a Strict Double-Blind Peer Review model:

  • Mutual Anonymity: Reviewers are not informed of the authors’ identities, and authors do not know who reviewed their work. This ensures the research is judged solely on its methodology, data quality, and contribution to the field.
  • Expert Validation: Every manuscript is appraised by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
  • Neutrality: Our process is specifically designed to eliminate biases related to institutional prestige, geographical location, or author seniority.

II. Ethical Integrity & No-Bias Mandate

HSIL adheres to the international standards set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the ICMJE.

  • Zero-Bias Guarantee: As a lab-funded entity, HSIL remains completely independent. Editorial decisions are never influenced by external sponsors, commercial interests, or political affiliations.
  • Plagiarism & Data Veracity: All submissions undergo advanced digital screening for plagiarism. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for data fabrication or the falsification of results.
  • Disclosure of Interests: All contributors are required to submit a formal Conflict of Interest disclosure to ensure total transparency.

III. Platinum Open Access (APC-Free)

  • Fully Funded Research: Unlike “Gold” Open Access journals that charge authors thousands of dollars, HSIL is internally funded.
  • Zero Author Fees: There are no Submission Fees and no Article Processing Charges (APCs).
  • Global Access: All published work is immediately available to researchers, clinicians, and the public worldwide without subscription barriers.

IV. Ethical Oversight

All research involving human subjects or animal models must include a statement confirming approval from an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or an equivalent ethics committee, and must follow the Declaration of Helsinki.

Submission Guidelines

To ensure a high-standard Double-Blind Peer Review, all contributors to the HSIL must strictly adhere to the following formatting and submission protocols.

1. Preparation of Submission Files

Authors must submit their work in two separate Microsoft Word (.docx) files:

File 1: The Title Page (Identifying)
  • Full title of the manuscript.
  • Full names of all authors with academic degrees.
  • Institutional affiliations and Corresponding author details.
  • Funding Statement & Acknowledgements.
File 2: The Blinded Manuscript (Anonymized)
  • Full manuscript title (No author names).
  • Abstract: Structured summary not exceeding 250 words.
  • Main Text: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion.
  • References: Vancouver Style.

2. Anonymization Protocol (Blinding)

  • Remove self-references (e.g., use “A previous study demonstrated…” instead of “Our previous study…”).
  • Generalize laboratory names (e.g., “A tertiary care hospital in Yangon”).
  • Metadata Removal: Remove personal info via File > Info > Inspect Document > Remove Document Properties.

3. Technical Specifications

  • Typography: Arial font, 11pt size throughout.
  • Layout: Double-spaced with 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins.
  • Line Numbering: Continuous line numbering must be enabled.

Referencing Guide (Vancouver Style)

1. In-Text Citations

Use numbers in parentheses (1) or superscripts after the relevant sentence, placed outside of periods.

Example: Mindfulness meditation has shown significant neuroplastic effects in the prefrontal cortex (1,2).

2. The Reference List

List references in numerical order as they appear in the text.
